The College of Agriculture, Latur was established in the year 1987 with a mandate to impart higher education of B.Sc. (Agriculture) degree to village level workers (VLW’s) of Department of Agriculture, working under T&V system, with an intake capacity of 35 candidates. This college has been strengthened in 1989 with regular 10+2 pattern B.Sc. (Agriculture) programme of four years with an intake capacity of 64 students. Further, the intake capacity was increased upto 94 with the provision to admit XII (Science) passed in-service candidates on deputation.

The post graduate programme leading to the M.Sc.(Agri) degrees in six disciplines viz. Agronomy, Agricultural Botany, Agricultural Entomology, Plant Pathology, Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry and Agricultural Economics was initiated with an intake capacity of six students in each discipline,during the academic year 2002-03. Further, this PG programme was strengthened by initiating in remaining four disciplines; viz., Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Dairy Science, Agricultural Meteorology and Agricultural Extension Education, during the academic year 2005-06.

Mission

The mandates of the college are to perform multifarious tasks of Education, Research and Extension in agriculture and allied disciplines, as given below:

  1. To impart education to the Under Graduate and Post Graduate students in various disciplines of agriculture.
  2. To undertake need based and location specific research activities.
  3. To disseminate research findings and latest knowledge of agriculture to the farmers and stakeholders.
  4. To co-ordinate and act as a link between the university and other line departments /agencies engaged in extension work.
  5. Integrating and coordinating the teaching of various subjects in different faculties.
  6. Coordinating agricultural education, research and extension education activities.
