The Department of Agricultural Economics at College of Agriculture, Latur was established in the year 1989. This department has been entrusted with the major responsibilities of teaching, research and extension in the subject of Agricultural Economics and specifically in the jurisdiction of Marathwada, Maharashtra and Nation as a whole.
The Department is committed to produce trained manpower in Agricultural Economics capable of assuming positions of responsibility in various academics and managerial cadres in agricultural sector. Specifically the mandate of the department is to offer courses on Agricultural Economics for under graduate degree programme in the faculties of Agriculture and also for post graduate programme leading to M.Sc.(Agri) in Agricultural Economics.
Another important mandate is to undertake research programme through post graduate students, research schemes in Agricultural Economics. The Department participates in agricultural extension activities organized by the VNMKV and Department of Agriculture, Maharashtra State from time to time. The basic purpose being to exchange information with other scientists and extension agencies engaged in Agriculture development through training, group discussion, seminar, symposium, workshop, conferences and scientific, technical and extension publications.
